18.45 Talks | What Happened to Industrial Design? • The talk featured Özlem Yalım, Strategic Brand Director at Tepta Lighting, and explored shifting behaviours within industrial design: those transforming, changing, intertwining, separating, converging, expanding and contracting. Yalım shared her perspectives on values, design processes and meaning. What Happened to Industrial Design? took place at İskele on Thursday, 26 May, at 18.45.
Özlem Yalım graduated from the Department of Industrial Design at Middle East Technical University’s Faculty of Architecture in 1995. Between 1995 and 2000, she completed numerous furniture and spatial design projects at Kilit Taşı, the design and architecture practice she co-founded. She developed and realised the concept for the Istanbul Design Biennial, first organised by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts in 2012, and served as its director for three years.
At the time of the event, Yalım was producing and presenting Rotatif, a programme on sustainability, circularity and inclusivity for Açık Radyo, and writing critical articles on the creative industries for T24 and Gazete Pencere. She had served as Strategic Brand Director at Tepta Lighting since 2015.
