Open Studio | Open Studio took place at Kuzguncuk Pier on Wednesday, 27 April, from 14.00 to 18.00, with the participation of architect Ömer Selçuk Baz.
Open Studio brought together participants who wanted to discuss their current projects and exchange ideas under the guidance of an expert practitioner. Students and young professionals from different fields of design met in a shared environment where they could work on their projects and learn from one another.
Applications were submitted by sending a letter of intent of no more than 250 words to [etkinlik@turkiyetasarimvakfi.org](mailto:etkinlik@turkiyetasarimvakfi.org). Participation was limited to 10 people, and the application deadline was Monday, 25 April, at 17.00.
Ömer Selçuk Baz was born in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1978. He completed his primary and secondary education in Antakya. After graduating from Bursa Uludağ University in 2002, he began his master’s studies at Vienna University of Technology. During his studies, he received awards in various national and international competitions. Alongside his master’s studies, he worked at Atelier Stelzhammer in Vienna, contributing primarily to residential and shopping centre projects.
After winning first prize in the architectural design competition for the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye’s Bursa Branch in 2005, he began practising architecture professionally in Türkiye. He led design studios in the graduate programmes of Istanbul Kültür University and Istanbul Bilgi University and served as a jury member in various national competitions and award programmes.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye’s Bursa Branch, the Troy Museum, the Riyadh Mosque and the Cappadocia Museum were among the major projects he developed with the Yalın Architecture team. The Central Bank’s Bursa Branch, the Troy Museum and the Riyadh Mosque projects received first prizes. At the time of the event, Baz was continuing his practice at Yalın Architecture, which he co-founded with urban planner Okan Bal in 2011.
